Event: Reclaiming Internationalism: Moving UK Development Policy Beyond Empire 2.0

14 September 2017 - 12:15pm
Event

Date: Monday 25th September 2017

Time:  13:00 -14:30

Location:  Hilton Brighton – Durham Hall – Wentwood

NB you will need a Labour Party Conference pass to attend this event as it is inside the Labour Party Conference

The next Labour government should go beyond Britain’s borders to build a world which works "for the many, not the few". This requires a radical redistribution of power, and absolute reshaping of the UK’s relations with the global South.  It means tackling the root causes of global poverty, inequality and injustice, not tinkering at the edges of the aid budget. It means being honest about the UK’s role in poverty creation and it means putting the redistribution of power to the poorest, wherever they live, at the heart of the development policy.

This event will start a conversation between Labour and civil society in the North and South.

Speakers:

  • Ashish Ghadiali [Chair]
  • Kate Osamor MP,
  • Asad Rehman (War on Want),
  • Lidy Nacpil (Asian People’s Movement on Debt and Development and Oxfam GB board member),
  • Natalie Sharples (Health Poverty Action)
  • Aisha Dodwell (Global Justice Now)

The event is being organised by Health Poverty Action, Global Justice Now, War on Want and Jubilee Debt Campaign on behalf of the Progressive Development Forum.

There will be lunch and refreshments.
