G4S abuse a symptom of larger injustice: arbitrary detention

5 September 2017 - 10:45am
Press release

Responding to the news of G4S abuses in the Brooks House ‘immigration removal centre’, War on Want’s Senior Militarism and Security Campaigner Ryvka Barnard said:

“The world’s largest private security company, G4S, has shown itself again to be contracting abuse and insecurity. It is appalling that G4S continues to be awarded government contracts after so much evidence has emerged of its routine abuses, from Palestine to UAE to the UK.”

She continued:

“The vile abuse that was exposed in the BBC Panorama footage is only a symptom of a larger injustice: the UK’s use of arbitrary detention of people whose only ‘crime’ is seeking safety.”

“Arbitrary detention is wrong, whether it’s being used by the UK government against migrants, or by Israel against the occupied Palestinian people. The UK government should immediately strip G4S of its contracts, and end its unjust system of arbitrary detention.”
