Victory for UNIQLO garment workers!

12 January 2017 - 11:15am
Press release

Fast Retailing, parent company of fashion giant UNIQLO, has bowed to public pressure and announced it will make its supply chain public. This follows War on Want and its partner SACOM's ongoing campaign targeted at UK high street fashion brands and specifically UNIQLO.

Responding to the news, Thulsi Narayanasamy, Senior Programme Officer at War on Want, said:

"This is a significant victory for Chinese and Cambodian garment workers producing for Fast Retailing and UNIQLO. They have struggled bravely against the violations that were committed against them by factories producing for Fast Retailing. Despite their claims being made public by SACOM, Fast Retailing had chosen to ignore the serious allegations of abuse.

"It is heartening to know that our sustained campaign against the fashion brand has brought about this change for workers. Now workers in the Fast Retailing supply chain will be able to track the conditions of workers across the supply chain, organise collectively and build a stronger movement of workers in the region".
