Reaction: Immigration System Risks Race to the Bottom

27 July 2017 - 11:45am
Press release

Commenting on The Home Secretary’s article “An immigration system that works for all” [1] and Commission to the Migration Advisory Committee to research EU and European Economic Area (EEA) migration and its role in the wider economy [2], Owen Espley Labour Rights campaigner, War on Want said:

“By aligning the immigration system to the needs of big business, the home secretary risks using the immigration system to restrict migrant workers’ rights so they can be more easily exploited. This would create a two-tier workforce where different groups of workers have different sets of rights and spark a race to the bottom that undermines the rights of everyone. An immigration system that works for all must ensure all workers, irrespective of status, are able to enjoy equal social and labour rights.“
