1. We tackle the root causes of poverty, not just its symptoms

We believe that global poverty can only be eliminated by changing the things that cause it, like unfair trading systems and exploitative business practices. We tackle them head on, calling for corporate accountability and pioneering campaigns on issues such as the privatisation of public services and the liberalisation of global trade policies, and we lead the way in bringing these injustices to a wider audience. We are at the centre of the movement for global justice in the UK, standing up for the rights of the most vulnerable and pressing for genuine solutions, whatever the cost.

2. We work hand in hand with our partners

We believe that people living in poverty know better than anyone to solve their own problems. Because of that we prefer to partner directly with grassroots organisations in the developing world and to work alongside them in their fight for long-term solutions. We support them financially, and follow their lead. We learn from our partners' activities to inform our work and campaigning here in the UK. Much of our overseas activity is on helping people secure the right to decent work, as we believe that this is one of the most fundamental human rights and a highly powerful tool in fighting poverty and social exclusion.

3. We will spend your money effectively

We are not a huge organisation, and we make every effort to keep our administrative and fundraising costs to a minimum. Consequently more of your money goes directly towards our campaigning work and to support our project partners.

Where will my donation be spent?

From every £1 you give us we will spend

  • 79p on overseas projects and hard-hitting campaigns
  • 19p on fundraising to raise the next £1
  • 2p on governance

War on Want patron Omar Barghouti enters fourth day of interrogation by Israeli authorities

22 March 2017 - 5:30pm

This repressive treatment of Omar Barghouti and other Palestinian human rights defenders shows that Israel is cementing its system of violence and discrimination towards Palestinians. The repression of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) activists only proves why it is so necessary in the first place, and will only make the movement grow more.
