War on Want challenges the root causes of poverty, inequality, and injustice through partnership with trade unions, social movements and civil society groups in the Global South and by running hard-hitting campaigns in the UK.
We are increasing our International Programmes Team with a new role for a Programme Officer - Advocacy and Campaigns. The Programme Officer will work across existing thematic areas and alongside two Senior Programme Officers and the Head of International Programmes. Thematically, our partners are engaged in the struggles for the rights of garment workers; for food sovereignty; for land rights and climate justice. Our partners are based in Latin America, South Asia, North and Sub-Saharan Africa.
We are looking for someone with experience of advocacy, campaign and/or communications work in partnership with Global South organisations and knowledge of social justice issues.
The role will bring additional capacity to our team to act in solidarity with our partners and amplify their voices in the UK through short to medium term initiatives that may target UK or multinational corporations or to educate and engage UK public and decision makers.
Previous experience in an activism, campaigns and/or communications role is required. The Programme Officer will be engaged in diverse tasks from drafting social media materials to organising in-person and online events to non-public casework with UK companies (especially with UK fashion companies).
