Who we are

We believe a better world is possible.

Our vision is a world free from poverty and oppression, based on social justice, equality and human rights for all.

Our mission is to fight against the root causes of poverty and human rights violations, as part of the worldwide movement for global justice.

Why poverty is political

Poverty is political. It is the result of decisions made by those who hold power - governments and corporations - and our global economic system, which generates increasing wealth and power for the super-rich at the expense of everyone else.

Over half of the world's population live in poverty, yet the richest 1% own almost half of all global wealth, while corporations buy up and control land and global resources.

Poverty erodes and undermines human rights. And the abuse of human rights pushes people into poverty.

But our 70-year history has shown that by coming together to challenge inequality and injustice through collective action, change can and does happen. If we act together, a just, fair world is possible.

What we do

  • We campaign in the UK to challenge corporations and governments - to hold those responsible for human rights abuses, injustice and poverty to account.
  • We publish in-depth research, expose and report on injustices and human rights violations globally.
  • We work in partnership with grassroots social movements around the world, from trade unions and workers' organisations to feminist and Indigenous groups. We stand in solidarity with all people fighting for their rights.
