The Zombie ISDS

February 2016

The investor-state dispute settlement system (ISDS) allows foreign companies to sue governments in their own privileged judicial system for any changes in public policy that affect their profits. The people of Europe overwhelmingly rejected ISDS when consulted by the European Commission.

The EC responded with a revised proposal promising to replace the ‘old’ ISDS system, with a ‘new’ and independent system: the Investment Court System or ICS.

Rough Trade: The threat of TTIP to small businesses in the UK

January 2016

The controversial EU-US trade deal TTIP seeks to grant US corporations greater access to the markets of Europe without complying with EU social and environmental standards.

This report reveals how such unfair competition will result in the loss of thousands of small businesses across Europe, and at least 680,000 jobs.

It also charts the rising opposition to TTIP within the business community, including the launch of Business Against TTIP.

Public Services Under Attack

October 2015

Our public services are under attack from a new generation of trade deals being negotiated behind closed doors. This report from War on Want and key European partners shows how the EU-US treaty TTIP and the EU-Canada treaty CETA will make any privatisation of public services effectively irreversible in future. The report also highlights the corporate lobby groups that have dictated the EU's agenda, to the long-term detriment of European people. It is published as part of the European campaign against TTIP, CETA and all the EU's free trade deals.

Tax - what is it good for?

October 2015

Download the latest tax action card here and print it yourself  or available soon from Order Materials

Tax evasion cost the UK economy £73.4bn in 2013-14, and is likely to grow beyond £100bn by 2018-19 if the UK government does not take action. Reducing tax avoidance, evasion and debt could significantly increase government income and undermine the argument that there is no alternative to austerity.
