Extraction Fashion, a new report published by War on Want and Research & Degrowth International (R&DI), examines the extent of UK and EU-bound fast fashion’s drain on Global South resources and human labour. New data reveals more than 5 million years of human labour and land the size of Great Britain and Belgium were used to produce clothing and footwear for the UK and EU across 2021.

Extraction Fashion examines how the fashion industry is pushing the planet beyond climate and ecological limits, while depriving Global South countries of the land, energy, water and labour essential for their own economic development. The report details the changes needed to protect workers, communities and the planet.
